About Us - Ashley

Teaching Background

I am currently working full time in podcast production and management. For more about that, see my website. However, I am planning a course for 2024 at Furman University and hope to get back into the teaching space with college students.

I started out at a private school in Spartanburg, SC, teaching high school English at the same school where my husband taught Spanish. From there, we moved to Japan to teach English in public schools there. Then we wound up in Kentucky, where I taught adult ELL students in a variety of settings for a year before teaching English and creative writing at a public high school.

We finally moved to the Shenandoah Valley where I taught English and creative writing before becoming an Instructional Technology Resource Teacher. These days, I'm back in Greenville, SC, loving the podcast life.

Likes & Dislikes

I love to travel anywhere and everywhere, and I'll jump at any opportunity to see a new place. Learning about other cultures, languages, and places is one of my greatest passions. I love hiking, kayaking, swimming, and being outside.

I'm not a big fan of stuff. Finding household items to donate is one of my favorite chores. I have had an on again/off again relationship with running that I'm hoping to rekindle now that my kids are getting bigger. We'll see how that works out.

About Ashley

In the rare moments when I am not working, podcasting, or chasing around two lively toddlers and one big puppy, you can find me reading (shocking, I know!), cooking, exercising, or being outside with my family.

We spend lots of time at the pool, we bike around town on the amazing Swamp Rabbit Trail, and we love our downtown, where we spend lots of weekend days.

We also travel whenever we can. Days at the park, hiking, kayaking, paddle boarding, or doing anything outside are the best.

Favorite Books & Authors

Phew, it's always tough to list just a few authors and books.

I love, love, LOVE Cormac McCarthy and Toni Morrison.

In Young Adult lit, I love Laini Taylor, John Green, and Jennifer Niven (and SO MANY others!!!).

As far as favorite books go, some recent ones I've read and loved include I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson and The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas.

In literary fiction, some recent favorites are Fredrik Backman's Beartown and Mary Beth Keane's Ask Again, Yes.
