No one loves a good beach read like I do. When I think about reading at the beach, I think about fast-paced thrillers, romances that make me swoon, and compelling, plot-driven narratives. Here are six books to put in your beach bag this summer.
Emily Henry's Beach Read was a favorite of the pod last summer. We even did a Book Club episode on it! Henry creates an intriguing romance using two flawed—but extremely likable— characters. I LOVED this book. It's perfect for a beach read (hence, the title). Beachiness at its best!
Taylor Jenkins Reid's Malibu Rising is a no brainer. It is no secret that TJR is an auto-buy author for us here at the pod. Malibu Rising is Reid's newest release, but we would also recommend any of her backlist. She has a knack for creating complex characters and extremely compelling narratives. Beach perfect!
If you are looking for a YA pick, Laura Taylor Namey's A Cuban Girl's Guide to Tea and Tomorrow is a perfect choice. This is actually Unabridged's June 2021 Book Club book AND Buddy Read pick! So, needless to say, we loved it! Set during the main character, Lila's, summer vacation, this book explores family, friends, and finding one's self. Throw it in the beach bag!
If you are looking for a twisty thriller, look no farther than Alex Michaelides's The Silent Patient.
Wowza! This psychological thriller leaves you on the edge of your seat until the very end. Bonus—Michaelides's has a brand new release, The Maidens, which we are also hearing great things about. So, if you like The Silent Patient, check out The Maidens! Nail-biting beachy drama!
Is romance more your speed? Check out Jasmine Guillory's The Wedding Date, the first of five in her The Wedding Date series. This smart, quick romance centers on Alexa and Drew, two people who meet on an elevator and agree to go together to a wedding. Hijinks ensue. This rom-com is cute, relatable and just so much fun to read! Beachtastic!
Is a twisty domestic drama/suspense more your cup of tea? Give Joshilyn Jackson's Never Have I Ever a try. This novel will keep you guessing around every twist and turn in the narrative. The only thing you can expect is the unexpected. This one is the perfect page-turner for a day with your toes in the sand! Beachy suspense at its best!
