Pub Day Shout-Outs! for August 31st, 2021, featuring Halle, Levithan and Niven, and Stone

by Sara Voigt (@meaningfulmadness)

Here are three books coming out today that I'm excited to read!

David Levithan and Jennifer Niven's Take Me With You When You Go (Amazon | Bookshop.org)

Book Cover of Take Me With You When You Go by David LEvithan and Jennifer Niven

Description from Publisher:

"Subject: You. Missing.

"Ezra Ahern wakes up one day to find his older sister, Bea, gone. No note, no sign, nothing but an email address hidden somewhere only he would find it. Ezra never expected to be left behind with their abusive stepfather and their neglectful mother—how is he supposed to navigate life without Bea?

"Bea Ahern already knew she needed to get as far away from home as possible But a message in her inbox changes everything, and she finds herself alone in a new city—without Ez, without a real plan—chasing someone who might not even want to be found.

"As things unravel at home for Ezra, Bea will confront secrets about their past that will forever change the way they think about their family. Together and apart, broken by abuse but connected by love, this brother and sister must learn to trust themselves before they can find a way back to each other.?

Why I want to read it: I have read several of both Niven's and Levithan's books, and I have really liked them. This collaboration is one I am very interested in, and the premise is very compelling.

Karina Halle's The Royals Next Door (Amazon | Bookshop.org)

Book Cover of The Royals Next Door by Karina Halle

Description from Publisher:

"An ordinary summer goes royally awry when a prince and princess move next door, bringing their handsome bodyguard with them, from New York Times bestselling author Karina Halle.

"Piper Evans: elementary school teacher by day–avid romance reader and anonymous podcaster by night. She has a quiet, reclusive life, taking care of her mother, who lives with mental illness, avoiding her regrettable ex, who bartends in town, and trying to make inroads in the tight-knit island community that still sees her, five years in, as an outsider.

"And she’s happy with how things are–really–until British royals rent the property next to hers and their brooding bodyguard decides she’s a security threat. Piper quickly realizes that one person’s fairy tale is an ordinary woman’s nightmare as a media frenzy takes over the island and each run-in with Harrison Cole is hotter and more confusing than the last. But beneath Harrison’s no-nonsense exterior lies a soft heart, one that could tempt a woman who’s sworn off attachments into believing in white knights.

"But when Piper finds herself smack in the middle of a royal scandal that rocks the island she’ll need more than Harrison’s strong arms to shield her–she’ll have to do a little rescuing herself. With careers, hearts, and friendships on the line, Piper and Harrison will have to decide what they’re willing to give up for a chance at their own happily ever after."

Why I want to read it: This sounds like the perfect end of summer read. I love that Piper is an elementary school teacher and I love that the royals move next door (ahem, Megan and Harry?!) I am going to get my hands on this delightful sounding book ASAP!

Nic Stone's Fast Pitch (Amazon | Bookshop.org)

Book Cover of Fast Pitch by Nic Stone

Description from Publisher:

"Shenice Lockwood, captain of the Fulton Firebirds, is hyper-focused when she steps up to the plate. Nothing can stop her from leading her team to the U12 fast-pitch softball regional championship. But life has thrown some curveballs her way.

"Strike one: As the sole team of all-brown faces, Shenice and the Firebirds have to work twice as hard to prove that Black girls belong at bat.

"Strike two: Shenice’s focus gets shaken when her great-uncle Jack reveals that a career-ending—and family-name-ruining—crime may have been a setup.

"Strike three: Broken focus means mistakes on the field. And Shenice’s teammates are beginning to wonder if she’s captain-qualified.

"It’s up to Shenice to discover the truth about her family’s past—and fast—before secrets take the Firebirds out of the game forever."

Why I want to read it: If you listen to the pod, you know we love Nic Stone, and you know that I have a soft spot for Middle Grade reads. What you might not know is that I played fastpitch softball and high school for four years, so this books sound amazing! I cannot wait to read about Shenice's story!
